WHY DO PEOPLE SEEK COUNSELLING?

Perhaps they are experiencing difficulties and anxieties in their lives:-

Associated problems with any relationship, stress or pressure at work, school or at home.
The grief and loss of bereavement, the stress of illness or caring for another, feelings of hopelessness and or depression.
Loss or lack of confidence, self worth and self esteem may affect how you feel or perceive your world.

People may seek help for many other varied and different reasons.......

 

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

By listening attentively and patiently the Counsellor will perceive your point of view and they may be able to help you to feel better by using their experience and skills.
Therapists work toward a way of enabling choice or change, reducing confusion or conflict and enhancing your feelings about your situation
Therapy does not involve giving advice or directing you to take a particular course of action.
As a Counsellor, I do not judge or exploit my clients in any way.

I may be able to help you with some of the following:

  • Addictions, including wanting to change your behaviour towards smoking, alcohol etc.
  • Abuse: childhood, sexual, domestic or emotional
  • Bereavement, Losses and grief
  • Depression / low mood or anxiety
  • Eating disorders and helping towards weight loss

    HOW LONG DOES COUNSELLING?

    There is an initial consultation, free of charge, usually lasting around 15 - 20 minutes.
    This will give you time to discuss the issues you would like to work on and the help you may need from Counselling. Any queries you may have would also be answered at this time.

    A certain amount of emotional relief may be achieved in one or two sessions but a more complex issue may take much longer to resolve.
    Sometimes people may need only one or a few visits with a counsellor. Your visits will be tailored to meet your needs but normally sessions will take place for an hour once a week.

    WHAT DOES A COUNSELLING SESSION INVOLVE?

    During these sessions you can bring any issues you need to resolve.

    Counselling is not just about dealing with unpleasant symptoms, you may need to feel relaxed after a stressful week at work or home and a Counselling session may be the treat you need to feel better.

    You may find your sessions give you clarity about what, when and how you want to change or work towards in your life, developing and strengthening your personality and confidence to achieve your goal.

    WHAT DOES A COUNSELLING SESSION COST?

    There is an initial consultation, free of charge, lasting around 15 - 20 minutes. You can then chose to continue for a full 60 minutes counselling session at a cost of £40, or arrange a suitable appointment, or indeed decide that counselling is not for you.

    A fee of £40 is payable at the end of each 60 minute session.

    HOW DO I ACCESS THE SERVICE?

    I accept referrals from:
    Yourself
    GP referrals
    From other professional agencies
    Corporate or business organisations

    You can make an appointment directly with myself and I will usually be able to see you within a week from your initial enquiry.

    Appointments are available both in and out of office hours.
